Jalen Brunson Hosts Saturday Night Live Season 52 Premiere

Saturday Night Live is back with its highly anticipated Season 52 premiere, and this year’s broadcast features NBA star Jalen Brunson taking center stage as the host. The show promises a fresh cycle of comedy following a lengthy hiatus, marking an exciting return for one of the most Emmy-winning programs in television history. Fans who have been counting down the days since Will Ferrell closed out Season 51 on May 16 are eager to see what the new season brings.

Jalen Brunson’s appearance as host is particularly noteworthy, making him only the fifth professional basketball player ever to take over the Studio 8H stage. Furthermore, he is the first athlete to do so since LeBron James hosted in 2007. The premiere episode of Season 52 will air tonight, September 26, at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and will also be available the following day on Peacock. This season promises a cast shakeup, including two new featured players making their debut: Saidah Belo-Osagie and Grace Reiter.

For those tracking Brunson’s career, this hosting gig is no surprise given his growing visibility outside of basketball. His connection to the spotlight has been established through various appearances, ranging from a cameo in a pre-taped Emmys segment alongside Mariska Hargitay to celebrating with teammates on The Tonight Show following their historic championship victory. He also has an upcoming guest role scheduled for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in Episode 5, demonstrating his continued presence in mainstream media.

Beyond the premiere, Season 52 is set up for a full year of comedic performances and celebrity cameos. Looking ahead, viewers can anticipate multiple hosts and musical guests across the coming weeks. For example, Dakota Johnson is scheduled to host the October 3 episode alongside the rock band Turnstile. Later in the month, Shane Gillis will take the stage on October 10, featuring Rosalía as the Musical Guest. The Halloween episode on October 31 marks a hosting debut for breakout Obsession star Inde Navarrette, with Gracie Abrams returning to perform as the Musical Guest.

The show’s scope extends far beyond its current cast. While Season 52 is the focus now, NBC itself has deep roots in American culture, having aired its first broadcast on November 15, 1926. In 2026, the network celebrates a century of shared moments and milestones. This longevity allows SNL to maintain its status as a cultural touchstone, continuing to define news, sports, and entertainment for generations.

The roster of talent remains diverse and impressive throughout the season's run. The cast has previously featured stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Harry Styles, and Ryan Gosling in Season 51 episodes. Furthermore, specific dates are already set for notable sketches and appearances, such as Marcello Hernández playing “Punch the Monkey,” Sarah Sherman portraying “Punch the Monkey’s Mom,” and anchor Colin Jost appearing during Weekend Update on February 28, 2026. The musical guest lineup is equally varied, including KATSEYE (Daniela Avanzini, Megan Skiendiel, Lara Raj and Yoonchae Jeung) who perform on September 3, 2026, in London, England.
