‘AHS’ Season 13 Unites the OGs. Here’s Which Characters Are Returning
“American Horror Story” is going all out for its 13th season, reuniting cast members and characters that fans have been missing for years.
After taking 2025 off, “AHS” will return with its aptly subtitled “13” season on Sept. 24. The three-episode premiere will arrive on FX and stream on Hulu. Subsequent episodes will be released in batches until the finale, Episode 13, on Oct. 29.
While most seasons of the horror anthology series give away their themes with their subtitles, fans are still speculating what the new season will be about. Co-creator Ryan Murphy has shared few plot details, but he has revealed that many stars who appeared in earlier seasons of “AHS” will be returning to reprise some fan-favorite characters.
Jessica Lange will portray all four of her characters from “Murder House,” “Asylum,” “Coven” and “Freak Show,” Murphy told Vogue , while Evan Peters will play five of his past characters and Sarah Paulson will revisit six of hers.
Murphy explained to the magazine that he wanted “13” to be a return to the origin of the show. “I just thought the number 13 was infused with so much stuff in the horror genre, and I wanted to do a greatest hits season. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew that I could only do it with Jessica,” he said about convincing Lange to return. (She told Variety that she is playing a mysterious fifth character, too.)
He also confirmed that the season is not just focusing on “Coven” characters, although many of them will appear.
“I was very interested in the greatest villains we’ve done. And I felt that they only would come together if we had a new story anchored by a new person. That person is Joey Pollari,” Murphy revealed.
The trailer also hinted at all the characters coming back. It showed glimpses of new characters, played by actors like Paul Anthony Kelly, as well.
Who is the major villain this season? Murphy didn’t spill. However, he did tease a new big bad.
“But let me just put it this way: In many seasons, the (characters) have battled the Antichrist. The only hint I’ll say is, ‘Let’s go above his pay grade for this.’ That’s my clue,” he shared.
